About Me

David Guretzki, PhD

I am a follower of Jesus Christ. Beyond that, I’m a husband, a father, a theologian, an author, a leader, and, when there is time, an amateur astrophotographer and radio amateur operator. Most of my professional life was spent at Briercrest College & Seminary as a Professor of Theology, Church and Public Life, while also serving in various roles of academic leadership. Since 2017, I’ve been serving at The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada and since 2023 as its President and Resident Theologian.

I am married to my beautiful wife, Maureen. We live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. We have three grown kids, Joey, Chiante (married to Dawson), and Sierra.

I grew up in Onoway, Alberta (son of Dennis and Evelyn), the youngest of four. I took two theological degrees from Briercrest College and Seminary (BRE and MA) and completed a PhD in Western Christian Thought at McGill University in 2006. My doctoral work was on the the Filioque in Karl Barth’s Church Dogmatics.

I am eclectic in both my personal and professional life. I enjoy a wide variety of things, including my most recent passion, Astrophotography. Theologically, I also have broad interests, but have spent most of my time working on the theology of Karl Barth, the theology of forgiveness and reconciliation, ecclesiology and political theology.
